AKD HIL alliance successful as legal support to Dutch SME's
Rotterdam Mayor Ivo Opstelten witnessed the signing of the AKD-Holthuis International Lawyers Strategic Alliance for China during his last Shanghai visit in may 2006 (click on "AKD HIL opening"). According to Mr Leo Boersen who signed on behalf of AKD and is also board member RCRO, "the alliance has proven to be very beneficial for the clients of both Holthuis and AKD".

Successful Shanghai return visit Ruud Lubbers
Former prime minister Ruud Lubbers returned to Shanghai 20 years after his last visit during 22-25 November 2007 period. On his 1987 visit Mr Lubbers, in his capacity as Dutch Prime Minister, opened RCRO together with former Chinese President and then Shanghai Mayor Jiang Zemin.

Rotterdam Mayor Opstelten to bring Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra to China
The longtime sistercity friendship and wide range of extensive cooperation between Shanghai and Rotterdam will be focus of the week-long Shanghai visit by Rotterdam Mayor Ivo Opstelten in june 2008. During his visit Mayor Opstelten will sign a new Memorandum of Understanding with his Shanghai colleague Mayor Han Zheng, in which all fields of cooperation will be agreed upon by both cities for the period 2008-2010.

Vice Mayor Geluk Education Delegation Visit Success
During the period march 30-april 4, Rotterdam vice mayor Leonard Geluk (responsible for Youth, Family and Education) visited Shanghai with a 25-member education delegation. The delegation represented Rotterdam's most prominent institutions at the secondary/ vocational/ and higher educational level. Education is an active area of cooperation within the sistercity relationship; and the visit by vice mayor Geluk strengthened the friendship between schools and responsible governments from both cities.

Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra will play in China
In june 2008, Mayor Opstelten will lead the largest Rotterdam delegation to date to visit Shanghai & Beijing. Highlight of this visit will be the performances by RCRO-participant Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra in Shanghai on june 20, 21 at the Shangahi Oriental Arts Centre & in Beijing on june 23 at the National Centre for the Performing Arts.

Willem De Kooning Akademie creative in Shanghai
During the the 3rd Shanghai International Creative Industry Week students from Donghua University and the Willem de Kooning Academy build a unique 500-pallet sized "pallet city" that highlighted their joint artistic contributions at the Shanghai International Creative Industry Week. The Shanghai International Creative Industry Week, with large support from the Dutch Consulate General in Shanghai, has developed into a major venue to showcase & promote Dutch Design in China.

Shanghai Marathon conquered by Rotterdam Running Ambassadors
Rotterdam promotion in Shanghai gained fresh energy when around 70 "Rotterdam Running Ambassadors" succesfully participated in the Shanghai Marathon. On Sunday November 24th, Former Dutch Prime Minister Ruud Lubbers and Shanghai Sports Vice Mayor Yang Dinghua officially started the Shanghai Marathon, in which, besides the Rotterdam Running Ambassadors, another 20000 runners participated. The Shanghai Marathon participation by the Rotterdam Running Ambassadors can be seen as another example of the energetic Rotterdam approach in Shanghai; and creates even closer friendship in the area of sports between both sistercities.
